George Zimmerman is selling the gun he used to kill Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, during a 2012 confrontation in Sanford, Florida. “I’m a free American,” he told Fox 35 in Orlando. “I can do what I like with my possessions.” And on Wednesday, proud card-carrying NRA board member Ted Nugent had another ragespasm on his Facebook page. The aging rocker posted a fake video of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) taking out a gun and shooting Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, according to Media Matters. “I got your guncontrol right here bitch!” Nugent posted.
Perhaps that’s why it comes as no surprise that the Motor City Madman has decided to put down a bid of no less than $50,000 for what he referred to as a “historic piece of weaponry.” Zimmerman’s firearm has caught Nugent’s eye ever since it was announced that it will be auctioned off. “To be quite honest, I can’t think of a reason why any freedom-loving, Constitution-respecting true American wouldn’t want that piece of history. It stands for everything white people in this country represent. And that makes it incredibly valuable,” Nugent told media outlets mere hours after posting the controversial video on Facebook.
“The number one thing,” Nugent added, “in addition to the fact that it is a reliable and fully functional piece of hardware, is that it was used by a law enforcement officer to protect his life against a black assailant. Even if you hated guns the way I hate Jews and black people, you’d still have no choice but to admit that the gun is worth incomparably more precisely because of the fact that it helped save an honest, law-protecting soul. Because, we can tell ourselves whatever we want, but cops have it rough in this country. It’s a difficult line of work every single day of the week.”
The rock star also stated that “other things aside, protecting white lives with the use of firearms is an integral part of American history that dates back to the Wild West and Civil War.” “We can pretend it’s not true all we want, but the fact to the matter is guns were used for centuries in this country to put black people in their place. And we can have as many abolitions and Black Lives Matter movements as we want, but that’s not going to change. Guns are in the DNA of every true white American, just like disciplining black people with it. And it all makes perfect sense, too.”
When asked to elaborate, Nugent stated, “Well, do you think you’d be able to notice if a black person would try to sneak up on you at night? No, you wouldn’t. And that’s because of their skin color. It’s an advantage they have over white people, and our ancestors knew it, which is why they started using guns against them. Think about it – what means of protection did white people have back in the 19th century when there was no electricity at night? Black people could sneak up on them at any time of night. So, guns were created as the white man’s way of leveling the playing field.”
“And when I saw Officer Zimmerman had placed his gun on auction, I just knew I had to have it. And I don’t care if the listing was removed from the site. The man wants to sell it and I want to buy it. We don’t need an auction to make the deal. History is very important to both of us, just like it should. And I’ll tell you something else: when I hand over the money to that man, I’ll make sure to shake his hand and thank him for the fine work he’s done. Because guys like him who put it on the line out there every single day deserve that,” Nugent concluded.
